The delights of trekking in the Himalayas of Nepal are unparalleled
- taking you far from the madding crowd and out into remote terain
and can vary in difficulty from a half-day pony trek to mountaineering
on Everest (or Sagarmatha as it is called in Nepal). The main
trails in the Annapurna and Everest regions are busiest between
September and November, and again between February and April.
Quieter trails are available in eastern Nepal or around the Kathmandu
Valley. Trekking elsewhere, for example in Bhutan or Tibet is
also possible through a reputable and established travel operator.
There are very good reasons for booking a trek through an
established and reputable agency. For example, the local agencies
know how to steer you clear of any trouble - whether it's straying
into a maoist area or losing an undefined trail. Experienced
Guides can also easily spot the early onset of AMS (Acute Mountain
Sickness) so even if the victim is disoriented, prompt action
can be taken to prevent a crisis. It is always unwise to embark
on a trek alone. With Sherpa Guides and Porters as part of the
group, trekking can also show you sides of remote country life
you'd otherwise miss.
