The Everest Trail
The Solu Khumbu region is home to numerous Bhuddist and Sherpa
peoples who are always ready to welcome you with a smile. Manis
(stones covered with Tibetan Bhuddist chants) and prayer flags
can be found everywhere. The mountain peoples have a truly diverse
lifestyle and culture. For example, polyandry (where a woman
may take several husbands) is still practiced by some of the
Sherpa peoples.
The attraction is not simply nostalgia for the early pioneers
who explored Khumbu in hob nail boots and tweed jackets. It is
also because the mountain is the highest point on Earth. Besides
the outstanding mountain scenery, trekkers can enjoy stone walled
fields and houses, local foods and above all, get to know the
Sherpas and their unique culture.
Treks in this area range from 7 to 45 days and are tougher
than around Annapurna but no less spectacular.
