Kanchenjunga
With the extension of the road from Dhankuta and Hille to
the north-east and north from Ilam and Phidim towards Taplejung,
this area has an enormous amount to offer the discerning trekker.
Typically, treks vary between 16 and 30 days.
The airstrip at Taplejung currently offers unreliable services
and so it is wise to stick to the Biratnagar airport or road
links to gain access to this region.
The Kanchenjunga massif with its myriad of glaciers, high
pass crossings and vast untrekked foothills offers opportunities
for almost endless exploration. Best in the early autumn or late
spring by which time the haze and heat in the low valley floors
contrasts sharply with the challenges offered high in the shadow
of Kanchenjunga.
