Upper Dolpo Adventure
These treks take place in the north west region of Nepal and
typically last between 21 and 36 days. Being one of the remotest
and least exposed areas of Nepal, naturally isolated by the difficult
topography, it still offers the opportunity to meet peoples whose
lifestyles have remained unchanged by modern life. As Dolpo is
linked so closely with the frontier of Tibet, it is largely inhabited
by Tibetan people. Here, there are still people and monastries
following Bon (a religion even more ancient than Buddhism). The
trek includes visits to several unique monasteries (or Gompas)
including Shey Gompa (or The Crystal Monastry) which is an important
site of pilgrimage for many Tibetans.
These treks are long and strenuous and should be undertaken
by those who are physically fit with previous trekking experience.
This area is one of the restricted regions of Nepal for foreign
tourists. A special permit is required (70 US Dollars per person
per day).
