Textiles

Nepal produces some of the finest pashminas, wool and mixed shawls and other items of clothing. Many of the designs and colours come straight from the mountains people in the north and beyond, the influence of Tibetan style is apparent. Cotton, silk and leather goods are also widely available. Virtually all items are hand woven and although the ancient colours have been retained, overwhelmingly, modern dyes are used so the clothes won't run or shrink like they would have done some years ago.

In Europe, you might pay 600 GB Pounds for a top quality pashmina. In Nepal, you can get them for a fraction of the price. Even after shipping and import duty, these any many other items work out at a fraction of the cost of the European or North American high street.
