Finding access to phones (national
& international), fax, email and the web is remarkably easy
for travellers in Nepal. In many cases, your tour agent or hotel
can provide these facilities at very reasonable rates. The main
destinations are also well served with cybercafes and other businesses
offering these services.
Typically, you'd expect to pay
around 20 Nepalese Rupees perhour for access to the web (roughly
17 pence in Sterling). The cost of using email
is typically around 10 Nepalese Rupees per KB.
Most visitors use email to keep
in touch with friends on the move and with the folks back home,
however it is worth checking that you can access your email address
from anywhere in the world before departing. Mail handlers such
as Outlook Express ® do not lend themselves easily to international
travel. To access your account whilst abroad you will need to
take a note of the POP3, SMTP and other details required to log
on and configure a mail handler at each stop to be able to access
your account - then delete the account when you're done.
Web-based e-mail on the other
hand such as Hotmail ® or go2kathmandu
© is fully transportable, giving you access from
anywhere through a web browser.
