Our visit to Nawa Prabhat Secondary School had to be hastily organised so we could reach the school before a nationwide strike called by an organisation associated with the Maoists took effect. (Ironically, the strike was lifted a few days later.) So the day after arriving in Kathmandu, we set off along fog-bound mountain passes by van, reaching Pokhara late evening.

The following afternoon, we arrived at Nawa Prabhat Secondary School to hand over 40 benches & desks. (Each bench seats 4 to 5 students depending on their age. So forty benches and desks could seat 160 and 200 students - enough to furnish two class rooms.) Additional sports equipment was handed over and prizes were presented to the most outstanding students. Members of the team participating in the visit included: Gopal Bhusal, Charles & Melanie Malcolm-Brown, Biplab Poudel & Monica Gentile. The school presented a programme of cultural activities including songs and dances. Project members were presented with sacred garlands, gifts, speeches and a letter of appreciation.
