Nepal issues Entry Visas to almost all nations' citizens although Indian nationals do not require a Visa to enter Nepal. Visitors requiring a Visa must present a valid passport, 2 passport-sized photos and a payment per adult of 40.00 US Dollars for a Single Entry Visa, 70.00 US Dollars for a Double Entry Visa and 100 US Dollars for a Multiple Entry Visa. We recommend that visitors get their Visas at one of the Royal Nepalese Embassies or Consulates abroad since this avoids queuing on arrival at Kathmandu Airport to have new Visas issued. Visitors arriving without a Visa should remember to have the photos and Dollars (in cash) with them to avoid difficulties. There are no facilities to pay for Entry Visas as yet by credit card. There is a currency exchange office in the arrivals hall at Kathmandu Airport though without credit card facilities. Here, during opening hours, you can usually cash US Dollar travellers cheques for US Dollars although other currency to currency exchanges may be more restricted. Visas can be extended beyond 30 days at the Department of Immigration, Tridevi Marg, Thamel (Tel. Kathmandu 412337 / 418573) or at the Immigration Office in Pokhara upon payment of an additional 25 percent in Nepali Rupees. Remember to retain NRs. 1100 for airport tax when departing Nepal by air. (Rates correct as at March 2001.) |
